What causes pimples?
Acne vulgaris is a skin condition that affects between 85% and 90% of individuals at various ages, when it’s most common during puberty and continues throughout adulthood.
The increased pressure that results from this condition causes the skin cells that surround the hair follicles to no longer shed properly. When the body creates too much natural oil sebum, the follicles and surrounding skin become vulnerable to infection by bacteria that naturally exist on the skin. All these elements combine to create the painful and inflamed infections we call pimples.
What happens in problematic skin?
Acne is caused by a variety of factors, including:
Dead skin cells that are not shed properly block follicles.
The excessive production of oil in the skin (sebum), is a result of hormones.
Bacteria can accumulate in the blocked follicle, causing it to inflame and grow.
Acne scars are generally the result of a ruptured follicle wall, which can spread the problem down into the lower layers of the epidermis and cause an acne scar.
